Availability: My office phone number is (617) 492-0400. I check my voicemail for messages numerous times during the day and in the early evening. If you have a crisis after hours, please leave a message on my office phone and then call the number I will give you.  I will make every effort to be available to you, but in an emergency, you can contact and/or visit the closest hospital emergency room for psychiatric evaluation and acute intervention.

Sessions: Visits may be one hour initial consultation sessions; 45 minute individual or couple psychotherapy sessions; 45 minute psychoanalysis sessions. I meet with people weekly and up to three times per week for psychotherapy, and four or five times per week for psychoanalysis. If we decide to work together, I will hold the same hour(s) for you each week. I do occasionally provide phone sessions.

Fees and Billing: I have established fees for my different modalities of treatment. I do not charge for brief telephone contact, but I do bill for phone sessions at a rate proportional to my fee. Phone sessions can not be billed to insurance. My fee will adjust for a cost of living increase in January of each year. I will give you an invoice at the end of each month, and would like payment before the end of the following month. My invoices contain all information necessary for you to submit them to your insurance company for reimbursement. Most non-HMO insurances reimburse subscribers in a timely fashion, and provide specific instructions for submitting invoices. I am happy to discuss billing and the particulars of your insurance coverage at any time.

Cancellation: Our reservation of a time is a weekly contract to meet, and I charge for missed sessions. Missed sessions can not be billed to insurance companies. I do not charge if I can fill the hour (the more advance notice I have the more likely I can fill it) or if we can reschedule to another hour within a week’s time. For psychoanalytic patients who do not have a substantial fee reduction, I bill half of my fee for missed sessions.

Consultation: Supervisory peer consultation is part of the treatment process. At times in our work, I will consult with professional colleagues about the course of treatment. In this consultation, I maintain the confidentiality of our work by not disclosing information that would identify you to others. If you are in concurrent therapy with another clinician, I will periodically consult and collaborate with that treater as a means of providing the best possible care.
